About Us

Muskham Playgroup was established in 1993. We are registered with both OFSTED and the Charity Commission. We are also a member of the Pre-School Learning Alliance.
We now also hold forest school Sessions with a fully qualified forest school teacher and regular Caterpillar Music Sessions.
The Playgroup is managed by an active parent committee who volunteer to help each year at the AGM in September. The committee employs 4 staff to run the Playgroup sessions and 2 members of supply staff. The committee also ensures that we meet all our legal obligations and manages the finances. We set the fees every year to try and cover our expenditure but not make a profit. We also rely on fundraising activities and are very grateful to everyone who does help to organise and support these activities.
Our Playgroup recognises parents as the first and most important educators of their children. All of the staff see themselves as partners with parents in providing care and education for their child. There are many ways in which parents can take part in making the setting a welcoming and stimulating place for children and parents, such as:
-
exchanging knowledge about their children's needs, activities, interests and progress with the staff;
-
helping at sessions of the setting;
-
helping to provide, make and look after the equipment and materials used in the children's play activities;
-
being part of the management of the setting;
-
supporting fund-raising activities;
-
building friendships with other parents in the setting.
We hold parents’ evenings once or twice a year so that you can come along and discuss your child’s progress with their key person. If you have any concerns or questions at any other time please ask to speak to a member of staff.
Aims
The main aims of Playgroup are to:
-
enhance the development and education of children under statuary school age;
-
work in partnership with parents/carers to help children to learn and develop;
-
provide a secure, safe, healthy and stimulating environment
… and most of all we want the children to be happy and to have fun.
The Committee
Any parent/carer can put themselves forward to join the committee. As children leave Playgroup for school we lose committee members. Please consider putting yourself forward as we need new members every year. Without committee members we cannot operate the Playgroup. We meet once every half term (so only four meetings a year). You don’t need any previous experience of being on a committee. We also need people who are keen to help us fund-raise. We would especially like a few Dads to join us!
